Decision from University Election Assembly
Newly composed Rectorate from November 2024

From 1 November 2024, a newly constituted Rectorate will manage Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU). University management still comprises six persons; in addition to the President Prof. Dr. Anja Steinbeck and the Chancellor Dr. Martin Goch, four Vice Presidents will be responsible for specific topics. The newly elected Rectorate members are Prof. Dr. Heidrun Dorgeloh from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Prof. Dr. Axel Görlitz from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Economist Prof. Dr. Christoph Börner and political scientist Prof. Dr. Stefan Marschall both held Vice President roles for a long time and are now stepping down from those roles in order to devote more time once again to their core tasks in research and teaching. They will remain members of the Rectorate until 31 October 2024. Prof. Dr. Dr. Andrea Icks, who studied medicine, and computer scientist Prof. Dr. Martin Mauve have been Vice Presidents at HHU since the autumn of 2020. Both were reappointed by the University Election Assembly and will remain in their roles.

Prof. Dr. Heidrun Dorgeloh, who studied English studies, and physicist Prof. Dr. Axel Görlitz, will join as members of the Rectorate as of 1 November 2024. They will complete the six-member university management at HHU. The make-up of “International Affairs and Scientific Communication” section, which is currently headed up by Prof. Marschall, will change once his successor takes over. Prof. Dorgeloh will be in charge of the newly created “University Culture and International Affairs” section. Consequently, the Rectorate of HHU will be made up as follows from 1 November 2024.

  • President: Prof. Dr. Anja Steinbeck
  • Chancellor: Dr. Martin Goch
  • Vice President for University Culture and International Affairs: Prof. Dr. Heidrun Dorgeloh
  • Vice President for Quality in Studies and Teaching: Prof. Dr. Axel Görlitz
  • Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer: Prof. Dr. Dr. Andrea Icks
  • Vice President for Digitalisation and Science Infrastructure: Prof. Dr. Martin Mauve

The four members of the Rectorate put themselves up for election at the proposal of the President and emerged from the process successfully after presenting their motivation, plans and visions for the next four years for HHU’s Rectorate to the University Election Assembly, chaired by Prof. Dr. Wolfram Trudo Knoefel. Prof. Knoefel and Carola Gräfin von Schmettow, Deputy Chair of the University Council, were there to congratulate those elected and wish them every success for the upcoming term of office.
